Description
Written by Chilton Price (December 25, 1913 – January 14, 2010) and originally called “Hurry Home To Me” as a plea to a sweetheart serving overseas in World War II. Pee Wee King and Redd Stewart were country artists and song pluggers who changed the title, shifted the focus “into a kind of universal song about separated lovers” and changed the title to “You Belong to Me”. It was released in 1952 and became a huge hit for Jo Stafford in the USA and the UK. She was the first woman singer to top the UK charts. Patsy Cline released a version in 1962 and is probably the version you can hear in your head. Check it out!
