Ghost Riders In The Sky

Written by Stan Jones (1914–1963) in 1948 when he worked for the National Park Service in Death Valley, California. He sang “Riders in the Sky” when guiding a group of Hollywood scouts looking for locations – they wanted to hear a sample of campfire music. Stan said he was told the story when he was 12 years old by an old Native American who lived near Douglas, Arizona, “When souls vacate their physical bodies, they reside as spirits in the sky, cloudy shapes, resembling ghost riders.”
